Below you will find a list of commonly asked questions regarding Create With Kirshy Programming. We will continue to add more to the list as questions continue to arise.
Do you offer art programs for participants under the age of five?
At this time, we specialize in programming for participants five or older, as our staff is not equipped or certified to work with younger children/ toddlers who are still developing fine motor skills. There is a good chance that this is something we will expand to offer in the future if there is enough interest and we are able to find suitable staffing.
Will my child be able to keep up with art programming and/or camp activities in a setting with a mix of different age groups?
Much of our programming (particularly our camp programs) is designed to be accessible to a range of ages (7-13+) with a focus on building on creativity and fine motor skills while also being a fun and rewarding experience. Age is less significant with regards to art since many budding creators develop these skills at different times and we are there to help them by sharing tips and tricks for bringing their imaginations to life. Since our staff is experienced working with a variety of different age groups, they regularly demonstrate their patience and understanding in providing 1:1 feedback and encouragement while still ensuring that each participant is putting in the effort. Challenges sometimes arise, and we are always happy to help overcome them and unlock new skills in the process.
What does a typical camp day look like?
At Create with Kirshy, we aim to make each day a unique artistic adventure by providing opportunities for participants to draw, paint, sculpt, and explore a variety of unique crafts and activities with art kits (included in the price of registration) which include a sketchbook, inking markers, colored pencils, eraser, paint brushes, and a pencil case). The day usually starts (at 9 am; drop-off starts at 8:30 am) with a drawing activity which could be a standalone (like creating a t-shirt design) or part of planning for another project (like a sculpted figurine, or keychain, or a character in a painted animation cell). We sculpt using non-toxic oven-bake (polymer) clay which is cured on-site. After lunchtime (typically between 11:30 am- 12:30 am), we do an instructional/ step-by-step painting (either watercolor or acrylic on canvas) which is selected based on the interests of the group. Finally, while we still have our paintbrushes out, we paint the now cured clay project from the morning. Those who finish earlier are encouraged to either draw in their sketchbook or continue work on projects that may not have been completed. We clean up around 3:20 pm which then leads into pick-up between 3:30 and 4 pm (extended care runs between 4 pm- 6 pm for an additional daily charge).
When registering, I only entered my name and contact information and paid a small deposit. When is the balance due and will I need to provide additional information prior to the start of camp?
Due to Covid-related lockdown measures resulting in the cancellation of past camp programs, we have decided to only take a small deposit (refundable in the event of cancellation due to lockdown) in order to assist families during a difficult time by not tying up finances. Approximately two weeks before the start of a registered session, families will receive (via email) a package of mandatory forms which outline specific guidelines (pick-up/ Covid policies) and allow us to collect information regarding any health or behavioral concerns, emergency contact information, and list of individuals authorized to pick up each registered participant at the end of the day. Balance of payment is due no later than one week (seven days) prior to the start of the registered session and can be made by cash, cheque, Visa/Mastercard, or e-transfer.
Are you offering single-day camp registrations this year?
Unfortunately, while a popular option last summer (2020), we will not be offering single-day camp registrations this year in accordance with Ontario Ministry of Health guidelines which recommend keeping groups of the same participants together to reduce the risk of transmission of Covid-19. As such, the prospect of having multiple participants changing over the course of a session goes against this.
Are there any discounts available for camp registration?
We offer a 5% discount for multiple registrations in the same session (sibling discount) or for single participants registering for multiple sessions. Additionally, existing clients can save an additional 5-10 % through our referral program (limitations apply).
